The problem with “adapted for women”

There is a difference between a product designed around women and a product merely adapted for them.

Adapted means the original decisions — the proportions, the weight, the mechanism, and the aesthetic — were made for someone else. What came later was a variation. A colourway. A softer finish on the same object.

Designed means the first questions asked were different: What does a woman actually need? How does she move through a day? What does she carry, and when, and why? What should this object look and feel like in her hand — not merely as a technical solution, but as something she is proud to reach for?

Many conventional slim wallets were never asked those questions. NETIC was built on them.

Years of searching — and nothing quite right

Before NETIC was created, we tried everything.

Designer wallets with slim-sounding names that were, in practice, anything but. Leather does not compress the way a specification sheet suggests. Every card slot adds a layer. Every layer adds thickness. Then comes the hardware — three-dimensional clasps, metal fastenings, and decorative details that can scratch the interior of bags worth considerably more than the wallet itself.

We tried the opposite too. Simple wallets from small makers — a single layer of leather, folded and stitched, as minimal as possible. Genuinely slim. And genuinely fiddly. Everything had to come out to find anything. Smooth cards in a flat leather pocket, sorted by hand and returned one by one. It worked. It simply never felt resolved.

The pattern became clear: the market largely offered two answers to the slim-wallet problem — overbuilt or underbuilt — and neither felt designed around the way many women use a wallet every day.

So we built the answer.

The day it became personal

It happens more often than you think.

A wallet — sitting in an open tote. A deliberate nudge in a crowded carriage. Gone before you notice.

But it is not just the loss. It is the realisation that the object you have been carrying was never built around the way you actually move through a day. Loose at the bottom of a large bag. Not protected. Not truly accessible. Simply there — until it is not.

That realisation clarified everything. Not a smaller wallet. Not a more colourful one. A completely rethought object — built around a woman’s day, a woman’s bag, and a woman’s standard.

What a woman’s day actually looks like

A woman’s day moves. It does not stay in one context.

In the morning, there is a tote — large enough for a laptop, a gym kit, and everything the day might require. By the afternoon, the bag might be smaller. By the evening, it might be almost nothing — a clutch, a chain bag, or a pocket.

A wallet that works beautifully in the morning and disappears to the bottom of the tote by afternoon has not solved the problem. A wallet that is perfect for the evening but too limited for the day has not solved it either.
